Earlier today Steam appeared to release their competitor to Twitch. The Steam.tv service was tweeted out by Pavel Djundik, and the link lead to a black website reading “Welcome to Steam.tv.” That’s all though.
According to Cnet and Kotaku, they were able to view the Dota 2 stream, but accessibility seems varied. We haven’t been able to access anything but a blank page.
A Valve representative later tonight confirmed Steam.tv’s existence and said, “What people saw was a test feed that was inadvertently made public.” It will be interesting to see how far Valve will push forward with Steam.tv. This could shake up the streaming market, and with Steam’s new voice functionality and Discord’s new store the gaming market seems like competition will be coming to many markets.
