Sony is finally taking the first forward step in its Crossplay journey. Fans have been begging Sony to allow crossplay in Fortnite for quite some times now, and Sony is making that happen. Today, Sony’s Playstation Chief, John Kodera, said that an open beta will begin today to allow players to play with their console counterpars and share progression between the multiple platforms.
“The first step will be an open beta beginning today for Fortnite that will allow for cross platform gameplay, progression and commerce across PlayStation 4, Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, and Mac operating systems.”

It will be interesting to see if Sony continues to move forward with more crossplay features on PS4, but for now Fortnite becoming crossplay compatible is already a great, and unexpected, first step.
