Bungie is leaving Activision, keeping Destiny

It’s been a terrible quarter for Destiny, but the punches are still coming for the gaming giant.

After years of tension between the two companies, Bungie has announced their departure from Activision.

According to Kotaku, one source said that the company was told during a meeting this afternoon. Apparently, it was such fantastic news to Bungie that it was worth popping champagne over, according to a source that was there.

For now, Destiny 2 will remain on the Battle.net store, but the Destiny publishing rights will be fully transferred to Bungie.

“We’ll continue to deliver on the existing Destiny roadmap, and we’re looking forward to releasing more seasonal experiences in the coming months,” the company said, “as well as surprising our community with some exciting announcements about what lies beyond.”

This could end up being a new era for the Destiny franchise as many fans considered many of the game’s downfalls to be at the fault of Activision. After all, prior to Destiny, Bungie was responsible the renowned Halo series of games.

“With Forsaken, we’ve learned, and listened, and leaned in to what we believe our players want from a great Destiny experience. Rest assured there is more of that on the way. We’ll continue to deliver on the existing Destiny roadmap, and we’re looking forward to releasing more seasonal experiences in the coming months, as well as surprising our community with some exciting announcements about what lies beyond.”
