CEO blames devs for Overkill’s The Walking Dead’s failure

It goes without saying that Overkill’s The Walking Dead was a failure.

The game currently sits at mixed reviews on Steam and holds a 52 on Metacritic. On its Steam page, reviews criticize the game for being repetitive, boring, and unoptimized.

Clearly the game didn’t do so hot, but who is to blame? Ex-CEO Bo Andersson blames his devs for the poor performance of the game.

Bo Andersson recently stepped down from his position as CEO of Starbreeze Studios. His resignation followed the initial poor reception and sales of Overkill’s The Walking Dead.

His last email to the developers blamed them for all the failures of the game.

“Personally though I lost all my money, my family in divorce and my kids custody through the toil over the last 2-3 years working 100 hour weeks for Starbreeze and keeping you devs paid and in the game… With less and less developers willing to put in the extra care in a product it clearly limits the possible result of enough quality in time. This is a new era and I did not leave the old one and adapt in time – my fault. Its ok – its new time”

Following the horrible sales numbers from the Steam launch, Overkill’s The Walking Dead will no longer be releasing on Xbox One and PS4 on its scheduled release date. A new release date will be announced in the future (that’s if they ever decided to release on at all).
