Axiom Verge is free on the Epic Games Store, and it’s crashing due to a missing file

The newest free game on the Epic Games Store is Axiom Verge, a side-scrolling action adventure where you must find out just what the world you’re in is.

“Discover tons of weapons, items, and abilities, each with their own unique behaviors and usage. You’ll need your wits to find them all.

Combat bizarre biomechanoid constructs, the deadly fallout of an ancient war, and the demons of your own psyche.

And finally, break the game itself by using glitches to corrupt foes and solve puzzles in the environment.”

The game is currently sitting at very positive reviews on Steam and an average score of 80 on Metacritic, so it’s pretty safe to say that it’s worth picking up if you’re willing to use the Epic Games Store.

Funny thing is though, the game isn’t working properly on the Epic Games Store.

One player found that the game was consistently crashing when they entered an area. After the looked through the files, the game appeared to missing a sound effect.

A sound effect called “steam”.

As hilarious as this is, it turns out the missing file was simply a mistake by the creator.

It appears Tom Happ, the creator, mistakenly deleted the file when purging the game’s files of all Steam related content when moving the game over to the Epic Games Store.

If you’re experiencing the crashes and missing the steam.xnb file, go to Axiom Verge in your Epic Games Store Library, click the gear icon, Verify, then Update.

This should fix any issues you’re having with the related issue.
