PlanetSide’s take on battle royale, PlanetSide Arena, has been delayed yet again

In the shadow of the giant that is Apex Legends, PlanetSide’s take on the battle royale has been delayed.

Originally Daybreak Game Company’s FPS battle royale game was supposed to release on January 29 of this year, but right before this date PlanetSide Arena was delayed until March. However, now Daybreak says the game is getting delayed again. This time the game is being pushed all the way back to this summer, alongside its planned release time for PS4.

Due to the delay, all pre-orders for PlanetSide Arena are being refunded, and the planned Founder’s Season pre-launch early access period is being canceled.

Within the announcement for the delay, no real solid reasoning has been given.

We’ve always envisioned PlanetSide Arena as a way for players to experience the epic gameplay of the PlanetSide universe, through fast-paced, combined arms combat and massive-scale multiplayer modes. We believe that delivering the most polished version of PlanetSide Arena that meets these expectations, on both platforms, outweighs any other consideration.

The delay could very well come in part due to Apex Legends and its success. With the life cycles battle royale games usually have, PlantSide Arena could be looking to capitalize on falling interest as fans of Apex grow tired of the game. Daybreak could also very well be using the extra time to model their game more off of Apex Legends after seeing its huge success.
