Apex Legends finally has its long awaited Season 1 Battle pass, and fans aren’t too thrilled about the contents available for unlock.
Season 1: Wild Frontier features plenty to unlock for players who purchase the battle pass as well as a few rewards for those who opt out of purchasing the pass. Too bad those rewards are pretty boring.
If you decide not to pick up the pass you’ll be able to earn:
- 1 Wild Frontier Legend Skin
- 5 Apex Packs
- 18 Wild Frontier Stat Trackers

If you decide to pick up the pass you’ll be able to earn unlocks all the way up to tier 100. The rewards you’ll see though only include a couple (in my opinion) gun skins, some voice lines, badges, stat trackers, and character backgrounds.

At Tier 48 you’ll unlock the game’s newest legend, Octane.

Octane has some pretty cool abilities that let him trade health for speed, and he features an endless supply of regeneration. Octane’s launch pad allows him to, unsurprisingly, launch through the air at will.
While it’s nice to see Apex Legends get its first new character since launch, fans’ excitement about the battle pass turned into disappointment after seeing the rewards available to them.
Many online complained that the weapon and character skins in the battle pass were bland and boring to look at as many of them were simple skins containing a ton of browns in their color palettes. Others were upset that challenges weren’t introduced with the pass.
Developer Respawn addresses some of the complaints fans had in a blog post.
“We’ve tried to create a battle pass where first-time spenders can get a strong base of weapon and character cosmetics to fill out their initial collection at a deep discount.”
“You’ll notice the first version isn’t built around a complex quest system where you need to do a 720 backflip off of Watchtower Artemis and get two Wingman headshots before hitting the ground. While we think there’s really cool design space in quests and challenges for future Battle Passes, we wanted the initial version to allow our players to just play and learn the game.”
Players will have to pay up 950 Apex coins (1000 Apex coins is $10) to unlock the Season 1 Battle Pass, and can earn enough coins from unlocks in the current Season Pass to unlock Season 2’s Battle Pass for free (assuming it’s the same price as Season 1’s).
