Ubisoft sticking with Rainbow 6 Siege for next-gen consoles

It appears that Ubisoft still has zero intention to release a Rainbow 6 Siege sequel anytime soon. Ubisoft has made it clear that they intended to hit the 100 operator landmark before making a sequel.

Ubisoft are sticking with this goal even throughout the release of next-gen consoles according to Rainbow 6 Siege’s Brand Director, Alexadre Remy.

“The reason behind this is we don’t want to segregate our community between the different platforms. In an ideal world, we’d love players from every platform to be able to play together. We are approaching next-gen with the same spirit.”

Remy also indicated that it’s Ubisoft’s goal to support cross-play between both current and future generation consoles as well as between Sony, Xbox, and PC hardware.

“The strength of any multiplayer game is the size of its community, so I do believe that we have to make every effort possible that when next gen comes in, they are treated as a high-end PC versus another PC.”

While the dream of full cross-play support is still a long ways away, it’s good to see that the future is bright when it comes to the longevity of Rainbow 6. As it stands now, Rainbow 6 is one of very few titles to actually successfully withstand the harsh winds of time in the video game industry.

Most games, take Anthem for example, fade away or lose the majority of their player-base far before the stated lifespan goal of the game.

Rainbow 6 Siege however, has continued to stand alongside its goals while continuing to maintain a strong player-base three and a half years past its initial launch date.
