Shenmue 3 is officially an Epic Games Store exclusive

If you were looking forward to purchase your copy of Shenmue 3 on Steam, then you’re in for some grim news.

During an official Kickstarter update Shenmue 3 developer Ys Net said that Epic’s support during the development of Shenmue 3 (which is using Epic’s Unreal Engine) has been excellent and the team has decided to use the Epic Games Store as the PC distribution platform for the game.

“Most importantly, in looking for the most enjoyable experience on PC, it was decided together with Deep Silver after much discussion that the Epic Games Store would be the best distribution platform option.”

This news comes despite Steam keys being promised to Kickstarter backers for the game, and has certainly angered many who have been greeted with a no-refund policy.

Shenmue 3’s Steam page is still up however, and Steams keys could theoretically still be delivered to those who funded the game’s initial Kickstarter.

The odds for this happening are unlikely though as neither Ys Net nor Deep Silver have given any information supporting the distribution of Steam keys.

The game has also seen a slight delay and will now release on November 19th on PlayStation 4 and PC. This will surely effect the excitement of many PC players who have very loudly expressed their hatred for the Epic Games Store.
