Yakuza 7: The Whereabouts of Light and Darkness release date trailer

Now that the saga of Kiryu is long over, Yakuza 7 finally gets a release trailer with game’s new official protagonist taking center stage in the crazy, intense, action packed, and fun antics of the Yakuza/RyuGa Gotoku series.

The Japanese release of the game will be coming to PlayStation 4 January 16, 2020 and later in 2020 for North America and Europe. For now, a PC port of the title is still unannounced.

Unlike the 7 previous numbered Yakuza titles, Yakuza 7:The Whereabouts of Light and Darkness will be getting a fresh new combat system.

Similar to an April Fools Day video released on (of course) April 1st earlier this year, Yakuza 7 will be getting a turn-based combat system. This new combat system is being seen more as a test for the Ryu Ga Gotoku development team, and studio director Toshihiro Nagoshi says that if fans are unhappy with the new system then they will revert to the action-combat of the previous games.

It seems like Yakuza 7 will be departing entirely from its ties with the original series as not only has its original main character Kiryu retired, its combat system changed, but its Kamurocho roots are also being left behind.

With main character Kazuga Ichiban, you’ll be traveling to Yokohama, Japan.

According to the developers at Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios, Yokohama will be around 3 times the size of Kamurocho.

It’s nice to see the developers behind such a well-renowned series continue to try and evolve their game while still being able to listen and accept criticism for the changes being presented.

Technically being the 13th entry in the Yakuza franchise, the new main-line games have big shoes to fill, but if Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios has shown anything its that they have the ability to make almost anything a fun time.
